Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released the following statement on National Police Week:

“This National Police Week, we honor the fallen law enforcement officers who have given up their lives in the name of our safety and protection, and we stand in full support of the brave men and women in blue who continue to make sacrifices for us every single day.

“As crime continues to reach unprecedented levels resulting from the Radical Left’s extreme, pro-crime agenda, we are reminded now, more than ever, of the importance of fighting against Far Left extremist, anti-police movements like ‘Defund the Police.’

“This week, House Republicans will bring to the floor the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act and the POLICE Act, which I am a co-sponsor of. These bills will allow federal law enforcement officers to purchase their retired service weapon and make assaulting a police officer a deportable offense under immigration law. The House will also vote on a resolution supporting law enforcement and condemning calls to defund the police.

“I applaud all the men and women law enforcement officers in Upstate New York, the North Country, and across America who continue to show up to work every day and who continue to risk their lives, despite the Far Left’s push to defund them. I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure that our police are honored in the way that they deserve to be.”

National Police Week offers honor, remembrance, and peer support, while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
