Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) released the following statement after the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) announced that they have extended the public comment period for the potential selection of Fort Drum to be a site for an East Coast Missile Interceptor System until August 17th:

“This is great news and gives our Fort Drum community an important opportunity to weigh in,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. ““Fort Drum is the best location for the Department of Defense to develop this missile defense system and I encourage our community to make their voices heard by issuing their comments to the MDA. Fort Drum and the surrounding community have a unique relationship and a site like this will positively impact our national security and our local economy. In fact, a potential site would support up to 2,000 jobs in our community.”

Public comments may be submitted through the MDA website here.
