Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik sent a bipartisan letter with her colleagues expressing support for H.R. 3073 – the Ticks: Identify, Control, and Knockout (TICK) Act of 2019. The letter, sent to Chairwoman Eshoo and Ranking Member Burgess, urges the members of the Energy and Commerce Committee to consider H.R. 3073 as soon as possible. The TICK Act creates a new Office of Oversight and Coordination for Vector-borne Disease in the Department of Health and Human Services coordinating strategies across key agencies, which ensures better programs and opportunities to finally combat Lyme disease and alleviate the suffering of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
“I am proud to support the TICK Act to develop a national strategy to prevent and treat Lyme Disease and other vector-borne diseases, said Congresswoman Stefanik. “The federal Tick-Borne Disease Working Group has stated that as of 2018, there are approximately 300,000 estimated new cases of Lyme in the United States each year. It is essential that we work to prioritize this issue and reverse the alarming trends associated with tick-borne diseases. Many of my constituents are affected by Lyme Disease, and as Co-Chair of the Invasive Species Caucus, I will continue to be an outspoken advocate in Congress for strategies and solutions to help fight it.”
