Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is a co-lead of H.R. 2480 – the Stronger Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, and co-led an amendment to fund a national hotline to prevent child abuse in today’s hearing.
“The Stronger Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act makes critical updates that strengthen the original law in order to further protect our children,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “This bill provides for evidence-based support for the victims of abuse, establishes national reporting requirements to more accurately track child abuse trends, expands research into child welfare, and improves the grant funding process. I am proud to co-introduce this life-saving bill, and will continue my advocacy for protecting our children, the most vulnerable members of our society.”
During today’s markup of CAPTA during the Committee on Education and Labor’s hearing, Congresswoman Stefanik offered an amendment to the bill that will provide funding for a national hotline to prevent child abuse along with Congresswoman Lucy McBath (D-GA.) The amendment was passed unanimously.
“Part of prevention is providing children with information they need to understand if what they are seeing or experiencing is child abuse,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “That’s why I co-led an amendment to provide funding for a national child abuse hotline, which will equip both children and parents with the resources necessary to spot and stop child abuse going on in their own home or in someone else’s home. I’m grateful to my colleagues on the Committee for overwhelmingly supporting this amendment.”
