Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik today voted in favor of the ALS Disability Insurance Act, bipartisan legislation that she cosponsored in the House. People with ALS must wait five months before they can receive the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits that they have earned. This bill would eliminate the five-month waiting period for disability insurance benefits for individuals with ALS, putting these benefits immediately in the hands of ALS patients who need them.
“ALS is a devastating disease that impacts many Americans, and I am proud to vote in favor of this bill to ensure that patients living with ALS receive the benefits they deserve in a timely fashion,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “This bipartisan bill will hopefully help alleviate the burden for individuals and families who are facing an ALS diagnosis and who should not have to wait for assistance.
