Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is an original cosponsor of the Good Samaritan Health Professionals Act, legislation that provides protection from lawsuits to healthcare professionals when they volunteer during a federally-declared disaster. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Vice President Pence followed Congress’ lead by issuing regulation to protect health care professionals by allowing them to practice across state lines and not be held liable for practicing medicine in a state which they aren’t registered.
“I am encouraged to see the administration follow Congress’ lead and take these necessary steps to protect our dedicated healthcare workers who are selflessly serving our communities during this pandemic,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “Ensuring those who volunteer their time and expertise are adequately protected is a top priority, and I am proud to be an original cosponsor of this bill and see it being implemented during the time of most need. I will continue to advocate for our invaluable healthcare professionals as they dedicate their lives to helping others.”
