Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik voted to pass two pieces of legislation to support North Country veterans’ efforts to be as competitive as possible in the workforce after their service to our country, and to ease the financial burden on those who are disabled due to their service.
- The Support for Veterans in Effective Apprenticeships Act requires the Department of Labor to ensure registered apprenticeship programs are aware of available education assistance for veterans and that veterans have equal access to these programs in order to develop professional skills.
- The FREED Vets Act codifies the policy of President Trump’s 2019 memorandum that directed the Department of Education and the Department of Veterans Affairs to automatically discharge the student loans for eligible veterans who are unemployable due to disabilities stemming from their service.
“As the Representative for more veterans than any other district in New York State and as a member of the Education and Labor Committee in Congress, it is my duty and privilege to advocate for opportunities for those who have courageously served our country,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “These important pieces of legislation will ensure veterans are as competitive as possible in the workforce through access to apprenticeship training and will ease the financial burden on those who are now disabled due to their sacrifice to our country.
