Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has been named to Leader Kevin McCarthy’s China Task Force, aimed at working on policies to hold China accountable for its coverup of the initial spread of COVID-19, which originated in Wuhan. Stefanik is one of fifteen Members of Congress on the Task Force.
Congresswoman Stefanik has been vocal in her push to hold the Communist Party of China accountable. She introduced a Resolution in the House calling for an international investigation and calling on China to pay back all nations impacted due to China’s intentional, early coverup of the deadly virus. She also sent a letter to Secretary Pompeo and Attorney General Barr urging them to bring a case against China to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for their cover-up of COVID-19. Additionally, Congresswoman Stefanik cosponsored a bill to move American pharmaceutical production out of China.
“The Communist Party of China intentionally withheld critical information on the spread of COVID-19 that could have saved thousands of lives,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “To this day, China continues to spread misinformation regarding this health crisis. The Communist Chinese Government must be held accountable. I appreciate Leader McCarthy naming me to the China Task Force and am looking forward to getting to work.”
“Elise is an excellent fit for this task force,” said Leader McCarthy. “As a rising star in the party, she has been one of the most active members in addressing the China threat. I saw early on during this pandemic that she recognized the need to hold China accountable for its misinformation campaign surrounding the coronavirus, and she has only continued to pursue the truth since then. I know that because of her tenacity, creativity, and determination to keep America safe, she will make invaluable contributions to the task force’s mission and the long-term security of the American people.”
