Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has announced that the Development Authority of the North Country will receive $200,000 in Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) grant funding. This project will install 5.5 miles of fiber for the business community, create 3 wireless hot-spots, and provide broadband access to 125 unserved homes in Tupper Lake.
Congresswoman Stefanik has worked to expand availability of NBRC grants throughout NY-21, and she works to secure funding for it each year in the House Appropriations process. Congresswoman Stefanik also wrote and submitted a letter of support for this specific project.
“I’m proud to announce this significant NBRC grant funding for the Development Authority of the North Country,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “This grant will expand broadband access in Tupper Lake, a top priority of mine for the entire North Country. I worked to secure this funding by advocating for expanding availability of NBRC grant funding in our region, and I’m proud to deliver this result to my constituents.”
“This grant will help the Development Authority, in partnership with the Town of Tupper Lake, to expand broadband access in the North Country, thanks to the support of Congresswoman Stefanik,” said Carl E. Farone, Jr., Executive Director of the Development Authority of the North Country. “The Congresswoman has seen that the recent pandemic has highlighted the need for enhanced broadband in our rural communities. This grant will help create a municipal broadband network in Tupper Lake that will benefit both businesses and residents.”
