Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik issued the below message in honor of National Police Week.

"On National Police Week, we commemorate the unsung heroes in our communities - our brave men and women in blue. I am proud to Back the Blue. As the Representative for New York's 21st Congressional District, I am proud to represent thousands of brave law enforcement and correctional officers, sheriffs, deputies, United States Border Patrol Agents, Customs Border Protections Agents, New York State Troopers, investigators, and retired law enforcement officers who are integral to the fabric of our North Country communities.

This year, it is even more important that we recognize the sacrifices our police officers make and the vital role they play in our communities, as President Biden and Members of Congress have caved to Far-Left activists around the country in their dangerous calls to defund and dismantle police departments. In the State of New York, we have already seen the devastating impact of this dangerous, liberal policy. After Mayor Bill de Blasio slashed less than half of a billion dollars from New York City's police budget, more people were shot in 2020 than the previous two years combined. In 2021, shootings are up 77% and murders are up 17% from last year. These alarming statistics are no coincidence, they are the consequences of the Democrats' abhorrent policies.

The Republican Party is the party of law and order, and we will always proudly stand with our men and women in blue. I am honored to have the support of the law enforcement community in my district, and I will never let them down."
