Saratoga, New York – In recognition of the 32nd anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik issued the below statement:
“32 years ago, the world watched in horror as the Chinese Communist Party arrested and slaughtered an unknown number of their own people as they protested for democracy and basic human rights in Tiananmen Square. The United States and our allies pledged to never forget the savagery of the Chinese Communist government’s attack that day, so we must not turn a blind eye to their continued genocide against their own minority Uyghur population and the ongoing repression in Hong Kong. As the beacon for democracy, equal rights, and freedom around the world, the United States must continue to hold the Chinese regime accountable and impose meaningful costs for their rampant human rights abuses and malign behavior, including their coverup of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
