Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik announced that, following over a year of working directly with Canadian officials on this issue, the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) has revised their policy for recreational boaters traveling through Canadian waters who are U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Effective August 9th, U.S. recreational boaters who do not land, anchor, or make contact with another boat will not be required to submit a pre-arrival test or their mandatory information for entering Canada via the ArriveCAN app when they transit through Canadian waters.
“Recreational boating along the St. Lawrence is a staple for many North Country families and critical for our seasonal industries,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “Canada has restricted access to Canadian waters since the border closure has been in place, even for U.S. boaters with no intentions of docking in Canada. I’ve worked closely with Ambassador Hillman on this issue since it first arose last summer and I’m proud to deliver these results for the North Country and secure this important fix.”
