Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik led a letter signed by the entire New York Republican delegation following up on their initial request for information on the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) decision not to open an investigation into former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s deadly nursing home coverup.
Stefanik and her colleagues reiterated their call for answers from DOJ on Thursday after it was announced last Wednesday that nearly 12,000 more New Yorkers died from COVID-19 than former Governor Cuomo’s Administration had reported.
“The Biden Administration’s refusal to investigate disgraced former Governor Cuomo’s deadly nursing home policy makes them complicit in Cuomo’s criminal corruption and coverup,” Stefanik said. “For months, the Biden DOJ has ignored my calls for an investigation into Cuomo’s criminal actions, which senselessly cost thousands of lives of our vulnerable seniors. Now we know Cuomo’s lies continued even further, and I will continue to demand answers and full transparency from the Biden Administration for the sake of the families who lost loved ones because of Cuomo’s criminal actions. New Yorkers deserve better.”
On August 4, 2021, Stefanik and members of the New York Delegation sent a letter asking why the DOJ refused to open an investigation into Governor Cuomo for his nursing home coverup. View the August 4th letter here.
Congresswoman Stefanik was joined by Representatives Claudia Tenney (NY-22), Chris Jacobs (NY-27), Lee Zeldin (NY-01), Tom Reed (NY-23), John Katko (NY-24), Andrew Garbarino (NY-02), and Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) in sending this letter.

Dear Attorney General Garland,
We are following up on our August 4, 2021 letter (attached) requesting information on your decision not to open an investigation into former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s deadly nursing home policy and subsequent actions to knowingly withhold information on COVID-19 deaths in New York’s nursing homes from Federal investigators.
Earlier today, the Governor of New York acknowledged nearly 12,000 more New Yorkers died of COVID-19 than had been reported by former Governor Cuomo’s Administration. Given that the Department of Justice’s (Department) inquiry into New York State’s nursing home policy relied on information provided by the Cuomo Administration on the number of COVID-19 deaths in public nursing homes, yesterday's revelation reiterates the importance of knowing exactly what information was provided to the Department and how the accuracy of this information was verified.
As thousands of New Yorkers have died as a result of the incomprehensible actions of former Governor Cuomo, their families and loved ones deserve full transparency from the Department.
We ask for a response with all the information requested in our August 4th letter no later than September 9, 2021.
Sincerely,
