Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik joined her colleagues in introducing the Ulysses S. Grant Bicentennial Recognition Act, legislation to posthumously promote Grant to General of the Armies, the highest rank in the U.S. Army.
“Ulysses S. Grant was one of the most influential military commanders in our nation’s history and chose to call the North Country home for his last days,” Stefanik said. “I am proud to work to strengthen the memory of his legacy, so Americans can remember him for his bravery and for leading our nation to victory in the Civil War.”
Stefanik worked for years to establish the U.S. Grant Cottage in Wilton, New York as a National Historic Landmark.
She joined Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), who led this legislation.
