Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik today voted against House Democrats’ bill that concedes American interests to China.

“Every family in the North Country is suffering from the highest inflation rate in my lifetime. Yet, instead of proposing real solutions to address this crisis, Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats are pushing through another partisan bill that concedes American interests to the Chinese Communist Party.

“Currently, the Chinese Communist Party is actively spreading propaganda and engaging in intellectual property theft and various forms of espionage on American college campuses. But House Democrats proved they fail to take this seriously by blocking consideration of my six amendments that would address this threat to our national security and our future generation.

“Additionally, this bill is more focused on climate provisions that would award China with American taxpayer dollars rather than counter their malign influence. It also fails to hold China accountable for unleashing COVID-19 on the world, support our allies like Taiwan facing Chinese aggression, or curtail China’s military weapons development.

“While House Democrats continue to kowtow to China, I will continue to fight to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for its actions and put America first.”

This week, House Democrats blocked from consideration Stefanik’s six amendments to this bill aimed at combatting China’s malign activities on our college campuses, protecting the integrity of our academic institutions, and safeguarding the national security of the United States. Instead, this bill authorizes $8 billion to pour into an unaccountable U.N. climate slush fund, which has already awarded $100 million to China.

As a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee and member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Stefanik has a strong record of being tough on China. Stefanik has introduced legislation to counter Chinese espionage efforts in American universities and legislation to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for their intellectual property theft, multiple human rights abuses, and sanctions Chinese Health Agency officials until there is an independent, unimpeded investigation into the origins of COVID-19.
