Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik joined her colleagues led by Congressman Lee Zeldin (NY-01) in sending a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul calling on her to support the repeal of New York’s “Green Light” law, finally speak out against the transportation of illegal immigrants into New York by the Biden Administration, permit and encourage more coordination and cooperation between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, and repeal New York’s many incentives that reward illegal entry.
The Green Light law allows undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses in New York and prevents federal immigration officials from accessing the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles records without a search warrant.
“The dead of the night flights to Westchester County have now morphed into a multi-faceted travel agency with destinations elsewhere in New York, dealing striking blows to local resources. This crisis has escalated to the point that New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently called for federal intervention due to the city's inability to accommodate the arrival of 3,000 illegal immigrants in recent weeks. New Yorkers have no concrete information about what sort of vetting these migrants have gone through, why they are being relocated, where they will stay, who was involved in this decision-making process and so much more. The silence and lack of transparency from your administration has been completely unacceptable,” the lawmakers wrote in part.
Following reporting on video footage that shows illegal immigrants arriving by plane in White Plains, New York, Stefanik led the charge in calling on President Biden to cease any transportation of illegal immigrants from the Southern Border to New York State and requesting the location and status of each illegal immigrant transferred to New York.
