Statement on the Death of George Floyd

America’s hearts break for George Floyd and his family. The officers involved in his death need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I believe we must work together as a North Country community to ensure strong, respectful, and effective relationships with our law enforcement and citizens - with zero tolerance for racism. Our law enforcement and community leaders have worked hard in our region to build those meaningful relationships locally. As our nation grieves together, I support the Constitutional right to peacefully protest. I do not support the anarchy, looting, destruction of property, and violence that we are seeing across the country. I agree with George Floyd’s family that this violence and destruction debases the call for justice for George. I support our National Guard’s service to our country by maintaining safety and security in our communities during protests. President Trump’s call for law and order in our nation during this turbulent time is an important message that America needed to hear.  The President has a responsibility to ensure law and order in our country. The chaos, burning, and looting we are seeing in many cities is a direct threat to the safety of all people.

Calling for Support from National Guard Amid NYS Calling for NY-21 Law Enforcement Support Across the State

Americans are united in support of justice for George Floyd, his family, and in the right to peaceful protest. The rioting, looting, destruction, and violence causing loss of life cannot be tolerated. Our New York State and NYC law enforcement needs support from the National Guard. I have heard from many families of North Country law enforcement this evening who are being called to their barracks and will be deployed across the state. Our entire community prays for the safety of ALL. We must end the dangerous rioting and violent destruction of lives.

Visiting Mold-Rite Plastics in Plattsburgh

On Monday, I visited Mold-Rite Plastics, located in Plattsburgh, to highlight their safe manufacturing best practices during the COVID-19 crisis. They will make 4.5 billion caps for medicine bottles, cleaning products, food products this year. They have also reported zero COVID-19 cases since start of health crisis. It is important for me to visit our local businesses and manufacturers to learn how they are adapting to and overcoming the COVID-19 crisis.
