Introducing Legislation to Protect Vietnam Era Veterans
I introduced the Vietnam Era Veterans Hepatitis C Testing Enhancement Act yesterday with 8 cosponsors. This bill enhances the VA’s efforts by seeks providing for a pilot project to study the benefits of implementing enhanced eligibility for all Vietnam and Vietnam Era Veterans in order to facilitate access to existing Hepatitis C testing through the VA. Millions of veterans who sacrificed for our nation were unknowingly exposed to HCV during their service, and unfortunately, access to proper testing is limited at best. This pilot program will focus on ways we can expand testing and treatment for our heroes in order to protect those to whom we owe our freedom. As the representative of more veterans than any Congressional district in New York State, I will always prioritize their issues and work to deliver results for them in Congress. I’m proud to introduce this life-saving and commonsense legislation to protect and support Vietnam Era Veterans during Hepatitis Awareness Month. Read more about the bill here.
Supporting Caregivers for Early Onset Alzheimer's Patients
I had the opportunity to question a panel of experts during a hearing on the Older Americans Act in the Committee on Education and Labor this week. I highlighted a bill I introduced that would amend the Older Americans Act to include patients who develop early onset Alzheimer's: the Younger Onset Alzheimer's Act.

Passing Legislation for Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans
The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act, legislation that I cosponsored and have worked on since my first term, passed the House unanimously. This bill expands benefits for Vietnam Blue Water Navy veterans who are currently suffering from diseases they developed as a result of their service. Blue Water Navy veterans should not be forced to sift through the frustrating bureaucracy at the VA to get the health benefits they need and deserve due to their courageous service to our nation. “I applaud the House for coming together to support this bipartisan and critical legislation, which will provide meaningful change for veterans across the country, many of which live in the North Country. Advocating for Market-Oriented Solutions to Climate Change
I wrote an essay for the George W. Bush Presidential Center on market-oriented solutions to climate change that was published this week. Passing the Natural Resources Management Act in the House this year was an incredibly important step in the right direction for our district and our efforts to protect the beauty of our region, but there is still plenty of work to be done. We need to take actionable steps -- which is why I am focused on policy plans to diminish market barriers, reduce pollution, and increase economic growth and justice through free enterprise. Strengthening Cybersecurity in the Workforce
I introduced the Cyber Ready Workforce Act with Congresswoman Susie Lee (D-NV) this week. This bipartisan bill would direct the Department of Labor to award grants to businesses and organizations in order to support the creation, implementation, and expansion of registered apprenticeship programs in cybersecurity. As Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities, I have made strengthening our nation’s cybersecurity a top priority in Congress. This legislation will equip our workforce with the tools needed to improve cybersecurity capabilities in businesses and organizations across the country. It is critical for not only our workforce and economy, but for our national security as well. This legislation is bicameral, and a companion bill was introduced in the Senate by Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-NV.) For more information, click here.
Meeting with Constituents
I had a great meeting in D.C. this week with North Country realtors from the National Realtors Association. We talked about a wide range of topics, including the reauthorization of the 21st Century Flood Reform Act and fair housing policies.
I also was able to welcome students from Willsboro High School and give them a tour of the Capitol! They are high school seniors who have bright futures ahead of them.
