Press Release

Washington, D.C. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has announced that the Town of Essex will receive over $789,500 in Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) grant funding. This project will implement upgrades to an existing municipal water treatment plant to comply with state and federal regulations. These upgrades will include the addition of a new filtration system to adequately meet seasonal water demands and drinking water standards.

Congresswoman Stefanik has worked to expand availability of NBRC grants throughout NY-21, and she works to secure funding for it each year in the House Appropriations process. Congresswoman Stefanik also wrote and submitted a letter of support for this specific project.

“I’m proud to announce this significant NBRC grant funding for the Town of Essex,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “This grant will improve water quality in the Town of Essex by upgrading the treatment plant. I worked to secure this funding by advocating for expanding availability of NBRC grant funding in our region, and I’m proud to deliver this result to my constituents.”

“The Town of Essex would like to express its deep gratitude and sincere appreciation to all involved for helping to make this allocation of funding to our water treatment plant expansion project possible,” said Town Supervisor Ken Hughes. “The awarding of these funds to our small municipality is a terrific demonstration of the committed cooperation that exists between local, county, state and federal offices and organizations, both public and private. The residents of our water district and those who visit it are the direct benefactors of this dedicated team of professionals. We applaud our Congresswoman and her staff for their efforts to secure this federal funding.”
