Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has sent a letter to the Department of Defense (DOD) requesting their support in improving servicemember participation in the SkillBridge program. Approximately 200,000 servicemembers transition from the military every year, but many are unfortunately unaware of SkillBridge. Congresswoman Stefanik is requesting that changes and flexibilities be implemented in order to increase awareness and participation in this program.
“Our servicemembers sacrifice so much for our country, and when they return home, we should do everything in our power to help make that transition easier for them and their families,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “The SkillBridge program is a great opportunity for our servicemembers to gain valuable civilian work experience, and further provides local businesses with skilled and dedicated employees they otherwise would not be able to employ. I am requesting that DOD consider some changes and improvements to the program in order to boost participation. I appreciate the work being done at DOD on this important issue and I look forward to working with them on behalf of our transitioning veterans.”
