Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik spoke on the House Floor today prior to the passage of the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act – the Dignity in Aging Act. She is a co-author of the bill and has helped lead the effort to pass this critical legislation for North Country seniors.

“It has been an honor to lead the bipartisan effort to reauthorize the Older Americans Act with Rep. Bonamici – legislation that will directly benefit North Country seniors,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “This reauthorization updates the law so programs can be more responsive to the needs of seniors, while raising funding levels to keep pace with the growing generation of older Americans. It includes several key provisions from other bills I have led to improve care for individuals with Alzheimer’s, support caregivers, and ensure Holocaust survivors are receiving tailored care for their unique needs. As the Representative of a district with one of the largest constituencies of older Americans, it is my duty to advocate for them in Congress.”

The Dignity in Aging Act passed this evening with strong, bipartisan support.
