Plattsburgh, NY – Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik toured South Junction Enterprises in Plattsburgh, a local business that provides truck-to-rail transloading to local companies and agricultural feed dealers that service farms all over the North Country. During the tour, the Congresswoman met with business owners from the Plattsburgh area who are dependent on the services that South Junction Enterprises provides.

South Junction Enterprises has previously reached out to Congresswoman Stefanik expressing their desire to expand rail service in the Plattsburgh area. The Congresswoman’s office met with representatives from several businesses throughout the area. As a result of these productive conversations, Canadian Pacific Rail announced that they were going to expand rail service.

“The expansion of rail service for the Plattsburgh area will be of great help to many of our local businesses who rely on that important service,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “I have had the opportunity to tour many of these local businesses and discuss this issue directly with business owners over the past few months. As our area recovers from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential that we support our small businesses and help them grow as much as possible. This announcement by Canadian Pacific Rail is welcomed in the area, and it will give many of our small businesses across the North Country increased flexibility. I am proud that my office was able to collaborate with local stakeholders, Chambers of Commerce, and the small business community in order to secure this significant result.”

"Along with our partners at CP Rail, South Junction Enterprises is excited to see the continued growth and progress for rail expansion in Plattsburgh,” said Troy Baraby, Owner of South Junction Enterprises. “We want to thank Congresswoman Stefanik for her advocacy on this matter."

“Mold-Rite Plastics is extremely pleased that Canadian Pacific Railway has increased their days of service to the North Country,” said Eric Zeisloft, Vice President of Operations of Mold-Rite Plastics. “This important change will allow Mold-Rite and other companies in the North Country to continue to grow.”

“The return of this service will improve our operation and allow us to better serve our growing customer demand,” said Daniel Votraw, Plant Manager of Schluter Systems. “Congresswoman Stefanik’s support was critical in making this happen.”

"The North Country Chamber has long said that where things move is where prosperity occurs, and that includes movement by road, air and rail," said Garry Douglas, President and CEO of the North Country Chamber of Commerce. "That's why this increase in rail service at Plattsburgh by CP is strategically important. It will immediately serve the growing needs of several local companies and our regional farms, while also bringing a commitment to work with us to help attract added rail activity. This would not have occurred without Congresswoman Stefanik's intervention and active promotion, telling the story of all that is happening in the Plattsburgh area and facilitating a positive, forward looking dialogue. Onward and upward and on track!"
