Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released the below statement following the House passage of the USMCA trade agreement:

“While Democrats prioritized impeaching our President, I have been a key leading voice to pass the long-overdue USMCA for months,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “As a Co-Chair of the Northern Border Caucus, delivering this significant result to North Country farmers, small businesses, manufacturers, and hardworking families has been one of my top priorities. The USMCA will expand our markets for American-made goods, bolstering our entire North Country economy. I’m grateful to have been an advocate for this bipartisan result from the very beginning, and applaud the House for getting this done before the end of the year.”

"This agreement brings certainty and predictability to the U.S.-Canadian economic partnership, as well as a number of enhancements in areas such as agriculture," said Garry Douglas, President of the North Country Chamber of Commerce. "And given that there is no more powerful dynamic in the North Country economy than our deep and growing connections of all kinds with our northern neighbors, this action is highly positive news for the region, both presently and for decades to come. We are setting records for employment and are drawing international attention for our success in attracting foreign direct investment. With this positive action on USMCA, we can expect further cross border investment and partnership in the years ahead. We thank the House for its approval, and thank Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and her bi-partisan colleagues in the Northern Border Caucus which she co-chairs for championing the cause. We now look forward to expected favorable action in the Senate early in the new year. Onward and upward for U.S.-Canadian economic partnership!"

“This holiday season will be a bit brighter for America’s dairy farmers as today’s vote brings us one step closer to finalizing USMCA and securing a more certain future for the dairy industry,” said Jim Mulhern, president and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation. “New York’s dairy industry appreciates the work that Congresswoman Stefanik has invested to ensure USMCA will provide expanded market opportunities and a more level playing field for dairy exports. Now we are counting on the Senate to act quickly and finalize USMCA in order to deliver its improvements to North American trade.”

“Today’s vote in the House is a significant step forward for New York’s farmers,” said David Fisher, New York Farm Bureau President. “USMCA provides both stability and opportunity for our farms with two of agriculture’s vital trading partners. New York Farm Bureau appreciates Rep. Stefanik’s strong support for the improved free trade agreement and her commitment to getting a successful outcome in Congress.”
