Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released the below statement following the House passage of the USMCA trade agreement:
“While Democrats prioritized impeaching our President, I have been a key leading voice to pass the long-overdue USMCA for months,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “As a Co-Chair of the Northern Border Caucus, delivering this significant result to North Country farmers, small businesses, manufacturers, and hardworking families has been one of my top priorities. The USMCA will expand our markets for American-made goods, bolstering our entire North Country economy. I’m grateful to have been an advocate for this bipartisan result from the very beginning, and applaud the House for getting this done before the end of the year.”
"This agreement brings certainty and predictability to the U.S.-Canadian economic partnership, as well as a number of enhancements in areas such as agriculture," said Garry Douglas, President of the North Country Chamber of Commerce. "And given that there is no more powerful dynamic in the North Country economy than our deep and growing connections of all kinds with our northern neighbors, this action is highly positive news for the region, both presently and for decades to come. We are setting records for employment and are drawing international attention for our success in attracting foreign direct investment. With this positive action on USMCA, we can expect further cross border investment and partnership in the years ahead.
