Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik today announced a $1,210,144.13 award for Samaritan Medical Center from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Disaster Relief Fund. This award will help Samaritan Medical cover the costs incurred from the pandemic, including providing for the purchases of increased sanitation, personal protective equipment, protective physical barriers, and social distancing signage for heavily trafficked areas.

“Today, I am announcing over $1.2 million of taxpayer funds will be returned to our district to support Samaritan Medical,” Stefanik said. “The unforeseen costs of providing safe treatment during the pandemic were especially tough on rural hospitals, which provide critical access for rural communities. Now, Samaritan Medical will receive necessary funding to continue serving the North Country.”

FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund is a constant fund that allows FEMA to direct, coordinate, manage, and fund response and recovery efforts associated with major disasters and emergencies that overwhelm state resources. This FEMA funding falls under New York State’s March 20, 2020 emergency declaration for the COVID-19 pandemic.
