Washington, D.C. - Today, the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act passed out of the Education and Workforce Committee. This bill allows school cafeterias to serve flavored and unflavored whole milk.

“Our dairy farmers in Upstate New York and the North Country work tirelessly every day to produce nutritious milk for our families and communities, and I am proud to be an original cosponsor of legislation to ensure a variety of milk choices for our school children,” stated Stefanik.

For years, Stefanik has led the fight to stop the banning of chocolate milk and protect milk choices in schools.

“I will always lead the fight and work to increase milk access for our kids. Removing whole and flavored milk from schools has demonstrated lower milk consumption, with studies showing average daily participation falling when flavored and whole milk are removed. This is unacceptable. The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act would allow schools to serve flavored and unflavored whole, reduced-fat, low-fat, and fat-free milk in cafeterias,” continued Stefanik.

Last year, Stefanik joined a bipartisan group of her colleagues in sending a letter to Mayor Adams calling on him to abandon his proposal to ban flavored milk in New York City Schools. Following Stefanik’s advocacy, Mayor Adams announced a temporary delay in his decision to ban chocolate milk in schools.
