East Greenbush, N.Y. - Congresswoman Elise Stefanik announced that she helped secure $50 million in funding for the Great Lakes Fishery Commission to preserve and protect Lake Champlain in the North Country.

“I am proud to announce that I secured $50 million in funding for the Great Lakes Fishery Commission through this year’s appropriations process. These funds will be used for fishery restoration, to combat invasive species such as the sea lamprey, protect Lake Champlain’s biodiversity, and strengthen our local economy,” said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.

"Lake Champlain is one of North America's great water resources and is a source of food, drinking water, and recreation to the people of New York, Vermont and Quebec. We thank Congresswoman Stefanik for her strong commitment to the protection and improvement of Lake Champlain and we appreciate her ability to secure the funding for this work. The Commission is excited to collaborate with Congresswoman Stefanik now, and in coming years, to focus more attention on the New York side of Lake Champlain," said Ethan Baker, Vice-chair of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission.
