Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released the following statement.
“Far Left Democrat Kathy Hochul truly is the worst Governor in America. Her wrongful termination of over 2,000 hardworking correctional officers has exacerbated the staffing shortages that our Upstate prisons were already facing under her weak and ineffective enforcement leadership and has now resulted in the early release of dangerous violent criminals into our communities. Hochul’s anti-law enforcement agenda and her disastrous Halt Act have put Upstate New York and North Country communities at grave risk. I am calling on her to repeal the Halt Act and rehire the correctional officers immediately.”
Last month, Congresswoman Stefanik released a statement on Governor Kathy Hochul’s termination of correctional officers following strikes surrounding working conditions.
In October 2024, Stefanik made a statement on Hochul’s closure of the Great Meadows Correctional Facility. In August 2024, Stefanik led a bipartisan rally in Fort Ann to save the facility after months of calling on Hochul to reverse the decision.
In December 2021, Congresswoman Stefanik led a rally to save prisons in the North Country following Hochul’s announcement of the closure of six New York prisons, including Ogdensburg Correctional Facility and Moriah Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility.
