WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) successfully delivered $10 million in funding for the Great Lake Fishery Commission (GLFC) to preserve and protect Lake Champlain in the North Country and to invest in an educational and outreach center.
"I am committed to preserving NY21's cherished environments, protecting our wealth of natural resources, and combating harmful invasive species that threaten Lake Champlain's wildlife habitats. This $10 million will benefit efforts against invasive species to uphold the watershed’s biodiversity and strengthen our local economy. The funding will also help create an outreach space for Upstate New Yorkers and visitors to learn, engage, and actively participate in the restoration of Lake Champlain and its watershed for years to come," said Stefanik.
Stefanik has long advocated for Lake Champlain and previously sent a letter urging the Lake Champlain Basin Program and the GLFC to establish a center for outreach and educational efforts on the New York side of Lake Champlain.
