Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik issued the following statement on her vote for H.R. 21, the Strategic Production Response Act. This legislation prevents the executive branch from making further drawdowns of our critical Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) without a plan to increase domestic energy production.
“For far too long, Joe Biden has risked America’s national security by draining our Strategic Petroleum Reserve for political benefit, leaving these crucial emergency oil reserves at the lowest level in my lifetime. Joe Biden has sold off more of our emergency oil reserves than every U.S. President in history combined. At the same time, he has continued his assault on domestic oil production, leaving families in Upstate New York and across the country paying skyrocketing prices at the pump and for utilities. I am proud to join my House Republican colleagues in demanding the Biden Administration unleash American energy production to restore our energy reserves, so we can end our reliance on foreign countries for an essential component of the everyday lives of Americans. Energy security is national security, and House Republicans are delivering on our promise to defend our energy security to support an economy that’s strong.”
